MILLVILLE - The city commission is considering an announcement on the successful proposal regarding the redevelopment of Millville Gardens at its next meeting, according to a statement read at Wednesday night's Neighborhood Council and neighborhood group meetings.
The statement came from Millville Planning Director Kim Ayres office to the rest of the neighborhood council and said they will be "very happy" with the decision, when it is announced.
A representative for Ayres office said she could not give any more information while the commission was mulling the different proposals.
Weed & Seed head and Center City Neighborhood Group member Liz Nicklus read the statement at the meeting.
"(Third Ward neighborhood group members) Gladis (McGraw) and Dave Sooy were citizen members" on the council tasked with choosing between the three proposals to develop the still-evacuating West Foundry Street apartment complex, read Nicklus.
The next commission meeting is scheduled for April 7, at 6:30 p.m.
The competing developers include Paoli, Pa.-based BCM Affordable Housing; Leewood Real Estate Group, in Staten Island, N.Y.; and the Holly City Development Corporation and Eastern Pacific Development Corporation in a joint proposal. Eastern Pacific is currently the developer behind the restoration of the Landis Theater, in Vineland.
According to Commissioner Joe Derella, a member of the request for proposals committee, the committee has made a choice. However, some members of the city commission had "some additional questions, on some details.
"We hope to make an announcement as soon as possible," he said. "Hopefully sometime in April."
According to city officials, four residences await relocation as of Wednesday. There remains no set date for demolition.
