Housing Authority touts assisted living program
MILLVILLE -- The Millville Housing Authority wants more local residents to take advantage of its assisted living program.
The MHA plans to hold an open house at its two assisted living facilities, Jaycee Plaza and Riverview West, on May 19. People in the assisted living program occupy about half of the facilities' 188 rooms, and MHA Executive Director Paul Dice said people seeking the program will go to the top of the waiting list for vacancies.
"I don't think enough people are aware of the program," he said. "I believe we can help people maintain independence in their daily lives before they become institutionalized" in a nursing home.
The program is provided by Medicaid for disabled seniors 50 to 64 years old and all seniors 65 years old and over, who make less than $2,022 per month. The program provides aides and a nurse 24 hours a day, and staff to help residents with personal care, transportation, grocery shopping, cooking and other services, said Bobbi Chard, assistant administrator for the program.
