Affordable Assisted Living in Millville
MILLVILLE--- The Millville Housing Authority's Assisted Living Program offers an inexpensive option for elderly individuals who might otherwise have no place to go.
"...Who wants to go to a nursing home, they're scared to go to a nursing home," said Nancy Thompson, Administrator of the MHA Assisted Living Program.
"...The whole purpose of assisted living is to keep our clients living independently in their apartments, and we provide the services that are necessary to keep them living independently."
The Assisted Living Program (ALP) includes help with transportation, doctors appointments and grocery shopping. Nursing services are available 24 hours/day, and staff members check on the well being of residents daily.
Started in 2003, the program now includes 60 residents, living in one of two Millville apartment buildings -- Jaycee Plaza and Riverview West.
To be eligible for the program, individuals have to be at least 65 years old (50 years old if disabled) and make no more than $2,022 per month, with total assets not exceeding $2,000.
They also have to be in need of assistance with three daily living activities, such as personal care, dressing and mobility.
Those who qualify for the program have to pay around $450 dollars per month rent, plus utilities, but the cost of the actual ALP services -- $1,500 per month -- is covered by Medicaid.
The Millville Housing Authority will hold an open house for qualified individuals interested in the ALP, on May 19th at Riverview West. For additional information call the Millville Housing Authority at: (856) 825-8669.
