Authority plans outdoor play area
MILLVILLE -- The Millville Housing Authority plans to create a small outdoor recreation facility next to the Holly City Family Center on East Mulberry Street.
The authority's Board of Commissioners at Tuesday's meeting approved an allocation of $3,640 to create a four-foot wide mulch walkway, install sod and create a grass play area on the 10-foot by 20-foot lot next to the center.
The authority will apply for a grant from the Cumberland County Improvement Authority to eventually upgrade the mulch path to asphalt, install a sprinkler system, landscaping and purchase a bench and tables. The entire project could be completed by next year.
The area could be used for children's games and for activities like volleyball, said MHA Executive Director Paul Dice.
Seniors who love to walk, but have safety concerns walking on nearby streets would also benefit from the area, he said.
Also at Tuesday's meeting, the board renewed the contract for its executive director. The board voted to extend Dice's contract another year, the most allowed under federal law. Dice will make $98,325 in the next year.
The authority also announced an open house for its Assisted Living program at Riverview West at 100 Riverside Drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 19. The authority is trying to gain new members to the program, which provides 24-hour-a-day nursing services and other benefits to seniors.
